web proxy

Proxies are computer servers that are set to work between clients and other servers. Basically, they filter requests for information from clients. They may communicate to the servers for the requested information or if the information is readily available in the proxies, the clients can access it from there. The most commonly used proxies are the web proxies which are used to control web traffic flow and data.

The main function of web proxies is to cache data. Data that is accessed regularly by the client is stored in the proxy from where users can easily access it without having to go to access the server. The proxies are also used to filter information. Instance parents and institutions use them to filter out pornographic materials. This means that anyone who tries to access any pornographic material from a client that is connected to the proxy cannot.

They are mostly used for this function by libraries and educational institutions. Use of the proxy allows an organization to access the internet through one server. The rest of the users can then access the internet through that server through the proxies.

Proxies have several advantages.

First, they lead to an improved performance of the network, as you don’t have to access everything you need from the server. This is because some of the information is stored in the proxy and can easily be accessed from there. This in turn leads to reduction in costs. By banning certain URLs and DNS on the proxy, you can easily filter of the content that the client can view. Another advantage of proxies is that they can be used to come up with logs that enable tracking of problems and security threats on the network. However, proxies pose a problem in that hackers can use them to hack into private networks undetected.
